Art statement

The Devil’s grip art piece gives off the notion of fear in people’s hearts. Whenever someone lashes out at you in anger, the devil possesses your heart. Its as if you are in the presence of some demonic creature. The hand grabs the heart and the pain festers. I feel that in some religions the Devil gains control of you.In the art piece the nails puncture the heart and it starts to bleed. The one word that this best describe this piece would be fear. Most religious people believe that hell and heaven both exist. They believe that there are some occurrences when people are being control or acting strangely. That’s why in some religions there are exorcisms to repel the demon away.
The dark colors exemplify fear. The hand squeezing the heart is a metaphor for a person being harmed by hatred and anger. People fear the supernatural. They are powerless and vulnerable at times. They resort to violence and lose control. Radical people always think that they know what’s right and wrong. People don’t understand when they are being possessed by something inside. They lose control and release their inner rage.
It’s the religious perspective of how one becomes anger.
I thought it would be really interesting to crop out the hand of a statue and overlap it over the heart.
